How to Break Camp Properly
When you break camp you
want to leave it in better shape than what you found it in. Be
a good steward of your camping area. If you found a some trash
do what you can to hike it out or burn it if allowed. If you
found some cans maybe see if you can bring those back out in
your backpack. Yea, it's no fun, but it's tough having good
character. OK, enough with the preaching. At the very least
pack out what you packed in.
As far as your personal
gear goes when breaking camp, you'll want to pack up everything
as clean and dry as possible. When you are rolling your
sleeping bag, brush it off. When you take down the camping tent
try to dry it off if needed. When you begin rolling the tent
up, make sure and brush off dirt and debris. At you help
decrease the possibility of putting a hole in your
gear.
Next comes the groundcloth
and again makes sure and brush off the dirt and debris. You'll
want to dry the groundcloth before rolling it up as
well.
Typically when you get home
you may want to unpack the tent and groundcloth and any other
equipment that may have gotten dirty to clean and properly dry
it by hanging it up.
If you take care of your
equipment you will be able to use the gear for a long time in
the future.
